When you just learn to play Texas Holdem should not play decent hands, but only the strong. Play good starting hands is important when you are a beginner. Play too many hands is by far the biggest mistake new players when they are starting. By only playing strong starting hands are less likely to you will lose a lot of dough. Sure, you will not earn as much as it will throw a lot of letters, but not lose big pots just for playing the hands that are decent. When you get a feel for the game and really know how to play, then you can start playing decent hands.
